A Mob of around 60 people “pounced on” members of a Northern GAA team outside their Ballybofey hotel as they returned from Heeney’s niteclub in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Gardai in Ballybofey had to call for re-infocements from Letterkenny to get the situation under control after a large scale brawl broke out in the car park of the hotel.
A spokesperson for Lough Macrory GAA Club situated between Omagh and Carrickmore in Tyrone, told the Finn Valley Post that around 12 members, all aged in their early twenties, had been on a night out to Lifford dogs from their Ballybofey hotel.
There was no football last weekend so some of the boys planned a night out to Lifford and Ballybofey.
“ …on returning from a niteclub in Ballybofey to their hotel there was a mob of local men waiting for them.” He said.
An eyewitness said that the incident flared up when a young local man was hit in Heeney’s and the mob assumed that the visting tyrone men where to blame.
However gardai questioned the men on sunday morning and later cleared them of any involvement.
