Final chance for Convoy
By Dermot Keys
Naomh Mhuire Convoy must raise their game one more time when they face St Eunan’s in the replay of the Junior B Final on Sunday in MacCumhaill Park.
Convoy forced a replay when Ryan Carlin scored an equalising point in the final minutes of the first game. Convoy’s manager, Joe Blake, told the Finn Valley Post that his charges would need to find the same sort of a performance in the replay if they want to beat St Eunan’s.
“We will need to play at least as well as we did in the last game,” he said.
“They’re going for their fourth title now. That will raise the ante but it’s still just about the one final for us.”
He praised the team’s determination and said a victory in the final would be a worthy reward for the way the team have applied themselves.
“It would mean everything to us. This reserves team are only in existence for four years but they are certainly making progress. They deserve it for all the effort they have put in.”
While St Eunan’s will try to add the Junior B Championship to their senior, reserve, minor and U12 titles, a single championship title would be a huge boost to Convoy. This could be the last chance for some of the players to lift a cup for their club.
“It would certainly mean more to us than to St Eunan’s, who will be competing in plenty of finals to come. We want to grab it this time.”
Convoy have no injury concerns going into the match and should to be able to field their best side. St Eunan’s will be favourites in Sunday’s game but Blake believes that his team will be much more confident after their performance in the last game.
“They could have beaten us but the team matched them on the day and we are as good as them. The boys have the belief that they can win.”
On Sunday, they will find out whether they can live up to that belief and take the title back to Convoy.
Throw-in is at 3.30pm.
