“Forgotten” Stranorlar

The new, enlarged Stranorlar Electoral Area – which encompasses most of the Finn Valley – appears to be the forgotten part of Ireland, according to the Department of Environment’s election website material.
Count centres in Donegal are listed for the Glenties, Inishowen, Donegal and Letterkenny electoral areas.
But none is listed for the Stranorlar Electoral Area.
But there is no mention of where the Stranorlar Electoral Area votes will be counted in the Donegal section.
The Finn Valley Centre in Stranorlar will, however, be the count centre for the Stranorlar Electoral Area, Donegal Co. Council confirmed to the Finn Valley Post. The count takes place on Sunday.
Ten candidates are battling it out for the five seats in the Stranorlar Electoral area, and all the indications are that it will be a titanic battle.
The candidates are: Peter Carlin, Gerry Crawford and Patrick McGowan (FF), Marti Harley, Stephen McNamee and Gareth Reid (FG), Frank McBrearty jnr. (Lab), Cora Harvey (SF), and independents and Alan Doohan, John Gallagher.
