Harps aim to topple Wexford
By Chris Ashmore
Let’s aim for fifth spot – that the call from Finn Harps boss James Gallagher as his side prepares to take on Wexford Youths on Saturday. (Kick-off at Finn Park is 7.45 pm).
The Donegal club will be hoping to extend its unbeaten league run to seven games.
And Gallagher feels that, being realistic, they can push for fifth position – and then really launch a bid for promotion the following season.
His young side have been playing really well recently, and while he felt that the 1-1 home draw against Athlone last week was a fair result, they were really looking for the three points.
“It means now that we have to go and make up for it somewhere away, but the first thing is to get a win against Wexford on Saturday,” he stated.
Gallagher has been forced to alter his team line up every week. Michael Funston will be out through suspension, and Shaun Houston remains a doubt.
Marc Brolly looked very good up front and could even have had a hat-trick. He is likely to lead the attack again.
Wexford Youths, who beat Harps 2-1 at Ferrycarrig Park earlier in the season, have lost their last two games.
They are currently fifth and are nine points ahead of Harps, but the Donegal club has two games in hand. Victory for Gallagher’s young troops would really put them on course to realise the target of fifth spot.
And with around half the season still to go, it is certainly quite achievable.
