New festival for Twin Towns

July 23rd, 2009

The Twin Towns of Ballybofey and Stranorlar will host a brand new summer festival on the weekend of August 28th-30th.

The festival will include funfairs, music (both on the street and in pubs and hotels), car boot sales and a murder mystery night in a packed weekend schedule. It will also include a custom-built obstacle course through the woods of Drumboe.

The festival is being organised by BASICC (Ballybofey & Stranorlar

Integrated Community Company) along with local businesses, hoteliers and politicians.

“The festival will be a much needed boost to the towns – both in terms of business and morale,” said BASICC representative, Helen Cleary.

“A lot of preparation has been done but there is still a lot more work needed.  We would encourage anyone interested in getting involved, whether it be in organising or hosting an event

themselves or merely offering a few hours of their time as stewards to contact me at The BASICC office.”

A 40 ft gig rig complete with PA will be situated in the Costcutters’ car park.

This will give local talent a stage on which to perform.  Bands or performers that wish to play over the weekend should contact Helen Cleary for details.

Local pubs and hotels will have a steady diet of entertainment over the weekend, with a closing dance at Jacksons Hotel on Sunday.

There is also a treasure hunt, a boat race on the River Finn and a tug-o-war challenge planned.

“It’s not to late to get involved”, says Helen. “If you have an idea for an event that you’d like to see included or would like to get involved either with organising or performing over the weekend

give us a call – we’d love to hear from you.”
