By-pass decision soon

Donegal South West Senator Brian Ó Domhnaill has this week confirmed that a decision on the Ballybofey/Stranorlar Bypass will be made by An Bord Pleanala in the next few weeks.

Senator Ó Domhnaill said: “The inspectors report is now complete and has been presented to the Board. Although a specific date cannot be given, I have been informed by an Board Pleanala that it is expected to have a decision made by the Board, over the coming weeks.”

He added: “I certainly hope that An Bord Pleanala take all of the local viewpoints on the Bypass development into consideration when deliberating on the project.”

“The proposed Bypass comprises of 16km Dual Carriageway and will be developed on a Design and Build contract basis. The project which extends from Kilross Junction to Meencrumlin on the Donegal Road represents a very important transportation corridor around the Twin Towns.”

The multi-million euro project will make a huge difference to the frequent traffic problems in the Ballybofey area.

However, given the current financial circumstances, fears have been expressed that it will be some years yet before it is completed.
