“Senseless act”

September 3rd, 2009

The former Mayor of Donegal, Cllr. Gerry Crawford has branded an act of vandalism in Lifford as “a senseless act.”

Last weekend vandals caused thousands of euros worth of damage to the wiring and lights at the sculpture on the town’s roundabout.

The sculpture was part of the HEART project on the town’s roundabout – and was built using cross-border funds.

The artwork –known as the Three Coins – is a celebration of Lifford’s past, and symbolises being the meeting point of three major rivers and roads.

Cllr. Crawford pointed that there has been great community spirit in the town and paid tribute to the local Tidy Towns committee which has done so much to enhance the appearance of the town.

He said that the purpetrators had “offended the whole community.”

He added that Lifford Development has kindly offered to support the cost of restoration works to the sculpture.
