Harps aim for top six finish

Finn Harps can still aim for a top half of the table finish and are a better side that their current league position suggests – that’s the view from team manager James Gallagher.

This Friday the Donegal club travels to Terryland Park to take on lowly Mervue United (kick-off 7.45 pm).

Harps are bidding to win their third game on the trot – which would be a first for this season – and Gallagher believes that they can still climb up the league ladder.

“I think we’re better than our league position suggests, and hopefully we can go on now in the weeks ahead and finish the season well,” he stated.

Harps are in eighth spot in the 12 team First Division, and are nine points adrift of Monaghan United who are in sixth.

However, Harps still have to play inconsistent Monaghan twice and if they can secure six points from those two games getting into the top half will not be an unrealistic target.

Meanwhile, off the field, the club is still struggling financially and the crowds appear to have levelled off at around the 400 mark for home games.

Gallagher is somewhat disappointed with the attendances given that the youthful side is almost entirely made up of Donegal players.
